An integrated video card (it is also often called an integrated or “onboard” video card) is part of the chipset system logic of the computer motherboard (part of the chipset). The integrated video card is usually located inside the chip of its “north bridge”.
Do not worry if you do not yet fully understand what is at stake (some kind of “bridges”, etc.) we will talk about the motherboard device in more detail in the following sections. So far, we are only interested in the integrated video card. The photo shows a typical example of integrated video on the motherboard.

A video card is that device with which the image is displayed on the monitor. Those. without a video card, we won’t see any text or images on the screen, and in general, computer operation without a video card is impossible.
There are two types of video cards: external video cards (discrete) and built-in (onboard from English “On board” – on the board). Let’s look at these concepts together in more detail. There are two monopolists on the external video card market now. These are California-based Nvidia and Canadian ATI Technologies. In 2006, the latter was also purchased by the American processor company AMD (Advanced MIcro Devices). Continue reading
Sound card is an integral attribute of a multimedia computer. Previously, when PCs were ancient and terribly slow, you had to buy a sound card for a computer separately, select the necessary type of connector, install it, and then carefully configure it in the right program. Who remembers what DOS applications are, he will understand me 🙂
Now – everything is much simpler! Sound cards for computers are divided into several categories:
made in the form of a separate printed circuit board, installed inside the system unit (discrete)
integrated (on board), which are an integral part of the motherboard
external (for example – USB) solutions Continue reading
